Every new shoot

A shoot is a common body until it has veins, joints and nodes to show: so the verses refuse kisalaya, every new shoot of anything, and with it bamboo shoots, sprouted grain, and tamarind while tender.
This is the first three marks read as a rule about time. The same leaf that is a body of its own in a week is common on the day it opens; the sprout of a grain that was fine dry is refused the moment it sprouts, virūḍha; the bamboo is refused as a shoot, vaṃśa-karīra, and eaten as nothing else. The Jīvavicāra says it in two words in its own list: aṅkura, kisalaya, sprouts and shoots. Komala-amlikā, tender tamarind, is the fruit the verses put here, and the tradition extends the thought to every tender fruit.
