मांस
Meat is refused not only for the animal: the commentators say that in flesh, raw or cooked or cooking, minute beings come into existence continuously, so that even a creature dead of itself is not food.
The guilt, Hemacandra says, belongs not to the slaughterer alone but to whoever buys or sells, cooks or carves, gives or eats. Then the doctrinal reason, which is the one the plate draws: the nigoda that find refuge in flesh and go on arising in it, so that harm is done even in touching a piece. Fish and eggs are covered by the word. One of the four vikṛtis and the first of the three ma-kāras.
