The nine Prativāsudevas
The enemy in each triad. He holds three khaṇḍas, demands the Vāsudeva's obedience, and dies by his own weapon.
A Prativāsudeva subjugates three khaṇḍas and calls on the Vāsudeva to submit. The Vāsudeva does not, and the Prativāsudeva's own cakra is what kills him. It happens this way nine times.
The ninth is Jarāsandha and the eighth is Rāvaṇa. Neither is a demon in this telling — both are śalākā-puruṣas, counted among the sixty-three, marked by the same tally-stick as the Tīrthaṅkaras. To be counted is not the same as to be good.
He goes to hell, like the Vāsudeva who killed him.
The ladder of strength passes him over. It ranks the Baladeva, the Vāsudeva and the Cakravartin and gives the Prativāsudeva no rung, although he holds the same three khaṇḍas a Vāsudeva does. This atlas leaves the gap where the chain leaves it.
