Birthplace of one Tīrthaṅkara · Sarnath
Siṃhapurī
सिंहपुरी
Śreyāṃsanātha's city, which the tradition places at Sarnath, beside the deer park where the Buddha first taught.
By Hemacandra's reckoning, as the atlas carries it, Śreyāṃsanātha was born here. The Jain temple to Śreyāṃsa stands at Sarnath. The identification is the pilgrimage tradition's; nothing found in the ground names Siṃhapurī.
The dot on the map is Sarnath, beside Varanasi; the identification is the pilgrimage tradition's. Every site in this chapter is graded the same way, and the section says why.
