Great river · flows east
Gaṅgā
गङ्गा
Leaves Padma lake by the eastern gate, falls into Bharat and runs to the eastern sea.
It runs 500 yojana east along the crest of Himavān before turning south and dropping off the mountain into Bharat Kṣetra, 25 yojana out from the cliff. Where it lands there is a pool 60 yojana wide and 10 deep, with a diamond hill 10 yojana high standing in the middle of it.
In Bharat it passes through a gap in Vaitāḍhya, then turns east to the ocean, splitting the region's eastern khaṇḍas. With Sindhu and Vaitāḍhya it makes the six divisions of Bharat.
14,000 tributaries feed it.
