Kevalī samudghāta
An omniscient being expands to fill the entire universe and returns, in eight samaya.
When a kevalī's remaining karma is unevenly distributed against the lifespan left, the soul evens it out by expanding. The eight steps are fixed and symmetrical: daṇḍa, a staff the height of the Loka; kapāṭa, a door; manthāna, a churn (the Digambara texts say pratara, a sheet); lokapūraṇa, filling the whole universe. Then the same four in reverse. The Last Instants chapter draws all eight.
At the fourth samaya the soul's space-points occupy every point of the occupied universe at once. This is the only circumstance in which a single soul is coextensive with the whole Loka.
