Kevalī samudghāta

केवली समुद्घात

An omniscient being expands to fill the entire universe and returns, in eight samaya.

When a kevalī's remaining karma is unevenly distributed against the lifespan left, the soul evens it out by expanding. The eight steps are fixed and symmetrical: daṇḍa, a staff the height of the Loka; kapāṭa, a door; pratara, a sheet; lokapūraṇa, filling the whole universe. Then the same four in reverse.

At the fourth samaya the soul's space-points occupy every point of the occupied universe at once. This is the only circumstance in which a single soul is coextensive with the whole Loka.

Eight samaya. Roughly one three-thousandth of a blink, if a samaya could be timed at all.
