A jewelled rampart standing on the shore of Jambūdvīpa the whole way round, with four gates.
It is 8 yojana high, 12 yojana wide where it meets the ground and 4 at the top, so it tapers. Its material is described as gold and gems, with a parapet of many-coloured jewels running along the crest.
The four gates take the cardinal directions, each with a presiding god of the same name: Vijaya in the east, Vaijayanta in the south, Jayanta in the west, Aparājita in the north. The words all mean roughly the same thing — victory, unconquered — which is the point.
Every continent has its own jagatī. This is simply the first.
