The tārās
तारा
The floor of the sky: 66,975 koṭākoṭi stars to every moon, at 790 yojana — below everything else that shines, and the fastest movers of all.
The stars are the lowest lights, not the highest: at 790 yojana they underlie the whole court, a floor of small vimānas so numerous the texts count them in koṭākoṭi — crores of crores. 66,975 of those to every moon.
They are the smallest vimānas in the sky and carry the smallest escort — 2,000 gods each — and they are the fastest of the five classes: in this sky the smaller you are, the quicker you go, from the stately moon down to the racing stars.
