Haimavat Kṣetra

हैमवत क्षेत्र

The second band north. Two parts in 190, and nobody there has to work.

Haimavat lies between Himavān and Mahāhimavān, watered by Rohitā and Rohitāsyā. It is Bhogabhūmi — a land of enjoyment — which sounds better than it is.

People here are born as twins, male and female, live out a fixed and pleasant span, and die together. Kalpavṛkṣa trees supply food, drink, light, music, clothing and shelter without cultivation. Nobody farms, nobody trades, nobody fights.

Nobody is liberated either. Effort is the mechanism of spiritual progress, and where there is nothing to strive against there is no striving. No Tīrthaṅkara is ever born in a land of enjoyment.

Conditions here correspond roughly to the third spoke of the time cycle in Bharat Kṣetra — and unlike Bharat, they never change.
