The two tunnels

Tamisrā and Khaṇḍaprapātā

Two sealed caves running north–south through Vaitāḍhya. Only a cakravartī opens them.

Each is 50 yojana long, 12 wide and 8 high — a tunnel from one half of Bharat Kṣetra to the other. Tamisrā lies on the west near the Sindhu, Khaṇḍaprapātā on the east near the Gaṅgā, and each is guarded by a yakṣa: Kṛtamāla and Nṛtyamāla.

There is no natural light in them. A cakravartī on campaign has the maṇi jewel and the kākiṇī jewel among his fourteen treasures, and uses them to mark 49 circles on the tunnel walls as he passes.

Two rivers, Unmagnajalā and Nimagnajalā, run across the floor of each cave. Anything dropped in the first floats; anything dropped in the second sinks.
