Mahāgiri and Suhastin
महागिरि · सुहस्ती
Eighth in the string with Mahāgiri, of the Vāsiṣṭha gotra.
Eighth in the string with Mahāgiri, of the Vāsiṣṭha gotra. Mahāgiri's eight pupils gave one gaṇa, the Uttarabalissaha, and the Trairāśika śākhā of Rohagupta. Suhastin's twelve gave six: Rohaṇa the Uddeha, Bhadrayaśas the Uḍuvāṭika, Kāmarddhi the Veśavāṭika, Śrīgupta the Cāraṇa, Ṛṣigupta the Mānava, and Susthita with Supratibuddha the Kauṭika — which is the gaṇa the trunk itself continues through.
Six of the eight gaṇas of the order hang from this one elder. On the map he is where the tree becomes a tree.
