Between Births
The passage from one body to the next: along the rows of space, in one to four samayas, with up to three bends, carrying only the karmic and the fiery bodies, and taking nothing in on the turns.
A soul leaving a body is on the lattice of space, moving along its rows toward the place its next body will form. The Tattvārthasūtra gives the passage six sūtras: only the karmic yoga in transit, motion along the rows, no bend for the freed soul, fewer than four bends for the wandering one, one samaya for a straight passage, one to three samayas without intake. The commentators name the four shapes - the arrow, thrown from the palm, the plough, the ox's trail - and the atlas draws them on the lattice, each a hit, then sets one passage on a clock beside the eight samayas of the omniscient's expansion, with the samayas that take nothing in lit on both.
