Māgadha-tīrtha

मागध तीर्थ

The first stop: where the Gaṅgā meets the eastern ocean, and where the nine nidhis live.

Bharata camped on the shore, fasted, and shot an arrow twelve yojana into the sea; it fell in the council hall of the lord of Māgadha, who returned it with water of the tīrtha, a crown and earrings (§2). The nine nidhis say they live here, "in Māgadha at the mouth of the Gaṅgā" (§15).
