Great river · flows west
Sindhu
सिन्धु
Leaves Padma lake by the western gate and mirrors the Gaṅgā across Bharat.
Everything true of Gaṅgā is true of Sindhu on the western side: the run along the crest, the fall into Bharat Kṣetra, the pool, the gap through Vaitāḍhya, the turn to the sea, the 14,000 tributaries.
The two of them together, with Vaitāḍhya, cut Bharat into its six khaṇḍas. The strip between them, south of the mountain and on the shore, is the Ārya Khaṇḍa.
