Deck · the gold rampart
The animals that came to hear
तिर्यंच
Predator and prey on the same deck, natural enmity suspended for as long as the preaching lasts.
The middle enclosure exists for them. Beasts come in, sit, and do not hunt.
The distinction from the deck below is not species but errand. An elephant that walked in to listen sits here. An elephant that carried someone waits one wall further out. Same animal — what differs is whether it came for itself.
Admitting animals at all is the point the name makes: samavasaraṇa, refuge open to every kind.
