The three fresh rhizomes आर्द्रक-त्रिक
Turmeric, ginger and zedoary are on the list while fresh and off it when dried: the same rhizome, a common body while it can grow and a body of its own once it cannot.
The verses say ārdra, moist, before each: ārdra-haridrā, ārdraka, ārdra-kaccūra. The Jīvavicāra bundles them as ārdraka-trika, the ginger triad. Dried ginger, sūṇṭh, and turmeric powder are in every Jain kitchen, and the rule that admits them is the last of the six marks : cut, it grows again - and dried, it does not.
