The twelve koṣṭhas
The Digambara assembly also has twelve divisions — but they are not the Śvetāmbara twelve reordered. They are a different structure.
In that account the halls run: ascetics, then a class of deva ladies, then nuns together with laywomen, then three more classes of deva ladies, then the four classes of devas, then men — and animals in the twelfth hall.
Two structural differences follow. The animals are inside the twelve rather than on a deck of their own, and the laywomen do not have a company to themselves.
Along with this go the four mānastambhas, a Tīrthaṅkara who sits without touching the throne, and a divine sound that is inarticulate until a disciple renders it.
This atlas follows the Śvetāmbara reckoning throughout. The difference is marked, never silently merged.
