Ajitanātha
अजितनाथ
The unconquered: while he was in the womb, his father could not be beaten at dice.
That is the traditional account of the name — Ajita, unconquered. He was born in Ayodhyā of Jitaśatru and Vijayā, in the fourth ara, where all the remaining twenty-three appear.
The gap behind him is the largest in the whole line: 50 lakh koṭi sāgaropama after Ṛṣabha, an interval measured by a unit that is itself defined by simile rather than by counting. From here each antara shrinks — the Descent's other slope.
