Sītā

सीता

One of the two rivers that organise Mahāvideha. It falls from Nīla, curls around Meru and runs east to the sea.

It leaves Kesarī lake on Nīla, flows south through Uttarakuru, bends around the eastern flank of Mount Meru through the Bhadraśāla forest, and then runs due east across East Mahāvideha to the salt ocean.

Everything north of it in East Mahāvideha is vijayas 1–8; everything south is vijayas 9–16. Sixteen of the thirty-two vijayas drain into it, which is why the commentaries give it 532,000 tributaries.

Where it meets the ocean there is a Sītāmukhavana, a mouth-forest 2,410 yojana across.
