Trasa-nāḍī

त्रसनाडी

A square shaft one rajju on a side running the full 14-rajju height. Beings that can move are found only inside it.

Jain biology divides life into sthāvara — earth, water, fire, air and plant bodies, which cannot move themselves — and trasa, which can. Trasa beings occupy only this central column. The rest of the universe holds nothing but immobile life.

That makes the shaft the whole stage of the story: all seven hells, all of Madhya Loka, every heaven, and the road a liberated soul takes straight up to Siddhaśilā lie within it.
