After the samudghāta the yogas are stilled one by one, and the soul stands like a mountain - śaileśī, the state of Śaileśa, Meru - for exactly as long as it takes to say a, i, u, ṛ, ḷ.
This is the fourteenth guṇasthāna, omniscience without activity: no thought, no speech, no movement, not the finest. The fourth śukladhyāna. Its duration is given not in samayas but in sound: the time to utter five short vowels. In its penultimate samaya seventy-two karmas end, in its last thirteen, and with the last of them the soul is free.
The view draws the five vowels as five ticks, because that is the only clock the texts give for it.
